    Format fun
    The days of struggling with arcane formats and complicated transfers are thankfully over. The DVD recording format, in both MPEG2 (SD) and AVCHD, treats you to digital picture and audio quality comparable to MiniDV and high definition but in DVD format. Playback is a breeze, and this model is compatible with multiple DVD formats for extra functionality. By using DVD+R Dual Layer (DL) media, you can even record up to 60 minutes of high-definition (1080i) content.

    Detail makes the difference
    The 1/3" ClearVID CMOS sensor with 1990K (effective) pixels delivers in-depth detail for improved video and still-image photography performance. The 10x optical zoom brings the action closer, while the 80x digital zoom interpolation results in extreme digital zooming that is clearer and suffers from little distortion. With a high-quality Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens, you'll enjoy an advanced optical multilayer coating that increases contrast. The additional T coating on the lens further reduces unwanted glare and flare.

    Steady and bright
    Don't let problems like a little hand shake or a murky night ruin exciting footage. Thanks to an advanced version of Sony's SteadyShot system, you're privy to an even higher amount of shake and vibration control. You'll relish the high level of smoothness and the NightShot infrared system that laughs at low-light conditions as well. With this system, you can film subjects up to 20 feet away even when shadows loom large. For different aspect ratios, you can easily switch between 4:3 and 16:9 with just the touch of a button.

    Hearing is believing
    Powerful audio is something that doesn't always get the respect it deserves. When you have a seamless blending of images and sounds, you've added an additional layer of fun and personality to the sights you've recorded. With this Handycam camcorder, dynamic audio is always there to add extra life to images. You can record in Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound thanks to the built-in microphone. This adds active sounds that come from all directions, delivering an overall experience more like real life.

    The included USB 2.0 interface provides a convenient method for connecting the camcorder to your computer. This offers a fast transfer of video and still images for editing. The camcorder can also be used as an external DVD burner, which is great for making copies of DVDs or burning edited movies. The active interface shoe gives you a spot directly on the camcorder to add optional accessories, while also delivering power and 2-way communication with those devices.

    AVCHD disclaimer
    This camcorder captures high-definition footage in the AVCHD format. Using the enclosed PC software, high-definition footage can be copied onto DVD media. However, DVD media containing AVCHD footage should not be used with DVD-based players or recorders, as the DVD player/recorder may fail to eject the media and may erase its contents without warning. DVD media containing AVCHD footage may be played on a compatible Blu-ray Disc player/recorder or other compatible device.
