The Canon EOS Rebel XS is a good entry-level dSLR. Its best feature is its photo quality, which stands out among the competition. The biggest operational advantage the XS offers over competitors is My Menu, which, unlike some other features, it inherits from higher-end models. With My Menu you can build a go-to-list of the most frequently accessed menu settings--in my case, for instance, Format and Live View settings.

Pict-Bridge compatible
Pict-Bridge is typically implemented using Universal Serial Bus ports and the USB protocol. Pict-Bridge-capable printers typically have a USB Type A receptacle which is then connected by cable to the USB port of a Pict-Bridge-capable digital camera (typically a Type Mini-B). The user then uses the camera to select the pictures to print, which the printer then retrieves from the camera and prints.

DIGIC II image processor
Digital Imaging Core is the manufacturer's name for a family of signal processing and control units for digital cameras and camcorders. DIGIC units are made by Canon Inc. for use in Canon's own digital imagery products. Technically, a DIGIC unit is a proprietary application-specific integrated circuit designed to perform high speed signal processing as well as the control operations incorporated in the respective product. DIGIC II is a single chip (unlike the first DIGIC. DIGIC II also improved upon the original DIGIC by adding a larger buffer and faster processing speed. It uses high-speed DDR-SDRAM, which improves startup time and AF speed. Canon claims DIGIC II improves color, sharpness, and automatic white balance with its CMOS sensor in its digital SLR camera line.

Auto-Focus mode
Auto focus (or AF) is a feature of some optical systems that allows them to obtain (and in some systems to also continuously maintain) correct focus on a subject, instead of requiring the operator to adjust focus manually. Auto focus systems rely on one or more sensors to determine correct focus. Some AF systems rely on a single sensor, while others use an array of sensors. Most modern SLR cameras use through-the-lens optical AF sensors, which also perform as light meters.

Picture Style settings
Picture Style technology and the EOS Digital Rebel XTi, photographers can recreate characteristics of their favorite films. Color, saturation, sharpness and contrast settings create noticeable variation in the saved image. In addition to six preset Picture Styles (Standard, Portrait, Landscape, Neutral, Faithful and Monochrome), users can create three additional settings for their particular photographic style.
