The AQUOS Limited Edition Series sets a new standard for large-screen flat-panel LCD-TVs. With Full HD 1080p resolution, dramatically enhanced black level and an elegant new ultra-thin design, the LC-52XS1U-S produces a breathtaking picture quality that is second to none. The Limited Edition Series utilizes the next generation of Sharp's proprietary 10-bit Advanced Super View/Black TFT Panel with a Dynamic Contrast Ratio in excess of 1,000,000:1 along with an ultra-high performance RGB-LED backlight for very deep black levels and an unprecedented 150% color gamut.

1,000,000:1 TV Contrast
TV contrast reaches more than 1,000,000:1* with its next generation Mega ASV LCD, which divides the image minutely and with highly precise, optimal control of the LCD and backlight in each area. By eliminating unnecessary light emission, a black which was previously considered difficult for flat-screen TV's can be produced, and the result is sharp, authentic 3-D effect.

Sharp's video menu
The Sharp's video menu lets you fine-tune color with saturation and tint controls for all the primary (red, green, blue) and secondary (yellow, cyan, and magenta) colors. So, after choosing the User picture preset, the settings for which can be adjusted independently for each of the TV's inputs, I tweaked the set using test patterns and program material to make the colors look more natural.

Sharp LC-52XS1U appearance
The LC-52XS1U is the classiest, sexiest, smartest-looking flat-panel TV yet. The brushed-stainless-steel bezel surrounded by black trim puts it in another league from its black-plastic brethren. Below the screen are flat membrane control buttons, and below that is a Pioneer-branded speaker system housed in a matching brushed-stainless-steel pod. The new Sharp Aquos XS LC-52XS1U-S 52" HD 1080p Extremely Thin LCD TV has state-of-the-art technology consisting of the integrated production from the manufacture of LCD panels to the final assembly of the TV's, has made possible a width of 2.28cm at the thinnest point, even for the 52V-inch large screen unit.

Sharp's universal remote capability
The Sharp's universal remote looks great, and most of its buttons are comfortably positioned. A display near the slim wand's top shows which component the remote is set to control, but there's no backlighting other than for the display, and the View Mode key for toggling among aspect-ratio modes is buried beneath a flip-down door. You change inputs by scrolling from a menu accessed through the input key or by toggling the input key repeatedly.

AVC Capability
The AVC has a gloss-black front panel set off by a stainless-steel door that swings down to reveal a convenience jack-pack with both an HDMI connection and an A/V input with component-,composite- and S-video jacks. Around back, you'll find four more HDMI inputs along with an RGB computer input, an RS232C port, and an Ethernet port (for accessing Sharp's Aquos Net Web services). The TV's input jacks and most of its processing circuitry are in a standalone component called the AVC (shown below) that feeds the display by way of an HDMI cable or an optional wireless HDMI kit. This allows the panel to be super-thin -- just 21/4 inches deep at its max, and about an inch deep at the outer screen.

1080p
1080p can be referred to a1920x1080 "progressive scan" HDTV format. Also called "Full HD" "True HD" and "Ultra HD," 1080p provides the highest resolution in the HDTV standard. However, on TV sets with screens smaller than 40", it may be difficult to distinguish the difference between 1080p and 720p, the lower of the HDTV resolutions.

LED Backlight
A backlight is a form of illumination used in liquid crystal displays (LCDs). Backlights illuminate the LCD from the side or back of the display panel, unlike front lights, which are placed in front of the LCD. Backlights are used in small displays to increase readability in low light conditions, and in computer displays and LCD televisions to produce light in a manner similar to a CRT display.
